New York — Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko will deliver the keynote address at the Founding Dinner of the Orange Circle, a new nongovernmental initiative launched to advance the values of democracy and freedom that were manifested in Ukraine's Orange Revolution of last December. The Dinner will be held at New York's Rainbow Room, 30 Rockefeller Center, 65th Floor, on September 15th. Press (who must register at ocpress@orangecircle.org or call the above-listed numbers) are invited to arrive no later than 7:45 p.m. with the program scheduled to begin at 8:15 p.m.

President Yushchenko's presentation will occur just a week after he ordered the dismissal of his Prime Minister and the entire Ukrainian government in what he declared was an effort to move forward the process of reform. The President's speech will be the first public opportunity in the U.S. to hear firsthand his views on the future of Ukraine's democratic and economic reforms.

Prior to his public remarks, President Yushchenko, Ukraine's First Lady, U.S.-born Kateryna Yushchenko and Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk will meet with Orange Circle leaders, corporate friends and eminent persons at a closed VIP reception at the offices of the international law firm of Chadbourne & Parke LLP, which has offices in Ukraine's capital Kiev.

Among those attending the VIP reception and dinner are former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Former Canadian Prime Minister John Turner, former U.S. trade representative Carla Hills, and European Union Commissioner Bettina Ferrero-Waldner, as well as executives from major corporations and investors from such institutions as Coca Cola, Port Vera Development, Fluor, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Northland Power, Horizon Securities, AIG, Bear Stearns, Citibank, the Western NIS Enterprise Fund, and Citigroup.

The Orange Circle is a new international non-governmental organization made up of eminent leaders, including Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski, who also will address the Founding dinner.

The non-profit aims to:

  • Promote Ukraine's Newborn Democracy
  • Promote the Legacy of the Orange Revolution
  • Cooperate with Ukraine's Democratic Leaders
  • Strengthen Ukraine's International Image
  • Build Public and Official Support for Ukraine in the US, Europe, and Canada
  • Support the European Integration of Ukraine
  • Promote Business Investment in Support of Ukraine's Democratic Stability
  • Build Western-Ukraine Cultural Links and Understanding
  • Mobilize Civic Leaders in Support of Ukraine

The initiative is being coordinated by former Freedom House President Adrian Karatnycky, who will serve as the new entity's chief executive officer.
